Our JSP & Java Servlet web hosting plans provide a stable, powerful platform for deploying your Java Servlet and JSP powered web applications and web sites.
Private Tomcat Servlet Engine
When you sign up for our JSP / Java Servlet hosting plans, we deploy a private instance of YOUR CHOICE of the the powerful Apache Tomcat Server version 4.1.x or version 5.5.x. All Tomcat Servers are deployed on the latest JDK version available. Your private Tomcat server will run in its own private Java Virtual Machine (JVM) instance. You won't be sharing an instance with anyone.
Private Tomcat installations are the ideal environment for deploying Java applications in a shared server environment. Some of the key advantages include:
- Full Control over Tomcat Server Configuration: You can setup custom configurations within your Tomcat server to meet any of your specific needs. You have full control over your server.xml, web.xml and other key configuration files.
- Start and Stop Tomcat Anytime: Since you will own the Tomcat Installation, you can start and stop it anytime on the command line. We provide full instructions on startup and shutdown of Tomcat in your welcome e-mail.
- Full Control over Classpath: You can install custom classes or JAR files or upgrade existing JAR files anytime. In addition, you can add additional paths and JAR files to your classpath for your Tomcat server anytime.
- Protection and Isolation from other Tomcat Users: Your Tomcat server runs in its own private JVM instance, under your user ID. Therefore you will not be affected by other users Tomcat accounts. Each Tomcat account is isolated, so poorly coded applications in one JSP Servlet account will not affect your web site and web applications.
- Configure Multiple Web Application Contexts: By default we configure application contexts at / and at /manager for the Tomcat Manager application. If you need to configure additional application contexts, you can configure them directly in your server.xml file.
- Configure Custom Security Realms: If your web application requires security realms, you will be able to configure them directly in your Tomcat server's server.xml as needed.
- Upgrade your Tomcat Installation at will: If you decide you would like to run a newer version of Tomcat - you can. Simply upload a binary installation of Tomcat over the existing installation we provide. There is one catch though - your new installation MUST continue to use the same TCP/IP ports that were originally configured. This will allow your new installation to continue to function with the Apache web server and the AJP13 workers we configure for you.

Build and Deploy Web Applications with Struts
Struts and Struts Tiles are powerful tools for building Java powered web sites and applications. Our JSP Servlet plans fully support Struts and Struts Tiles.
We've installed the base Struts example applications on our Tomcat platform to demonstrate that how easily can be done. Installing the examples took about 10 minutes, following the documentation on the Apache Struts and Apache Tomcat web sites.
Click the links below to see the example Struts applications running on our platform. These links will open in a new window:
Using Struts on your own account is simple. Simply upload the struts JAR files into your server's classpath, upload your struts enabled web application JAR file and restart the Tomcat server. That is all that is required to deploy your Struts web application. |
Web Based Tomcat Server Manager Included
The Tomcat Manager web application is preconfigured and enabled on all of our JSP / Servlet web hosting accounts. The Tomcat Manager web application allows you to perform a variety of management functions on your Tomcat Server in real time right through a web browser. The Tomcat Manager's management functions include listing, deploying, undeploying, starting, stopping and restarting your web applications. |
